Volunteering

Tadcaster York Sport Swim Squad logo

Our club runs on the amazing input of all our swim family volunteers. From swimmers through to grandparents there is an opportunity for all to get involved in supporting the club to thrive.

Whether you are a new or longstanding member we are always looking for more support and there are many ways you can get involved and volunteer at TYSSS.

Fundraising

Getting involved in fundraising can be as simple as signing up for easyfundraising or running a cake stall right through to more involvement in big fundraising events.

If you are interested in joining the fundraising team please speak to our fundraising lead Amanda Horsman directly or email us.

Don’t forget to sign-up to easyfundraising

Home Gala Volunteering

Each year we run a licensed swim meet attended by other local clubs.

We need lots of volunteers to make this a success.

Look out for emails asking for your assistance.

Swim Coaching or Teaching

Many of our swimmers also volunteer with the swim teaching programme run by Tadcaster Community Pool or as assistant coaches for the squad.

Lifeguarding

Thank you to Jon Allars who regularly volunteers as a lifeguard for morning training.

Many of our swimmers train to be life-guards, courses are regularly run by our home pool Tadcaster Community Pool.

Once trained swimmers can volunteer to help as a life-guard or seek paid work as a life-guard both at Tadcaster Community Pool or other local facilities.

Team Managing

To keep our swimmers safe and supported poolside at galas and when we go on camps we need Team Managers. Team Managers help with swimmer organisation and welfare, they are an essential part of the squad.

We have a supportive group of team managers to mentor you when you first start out.

If you are interested in becoming a team manager please email squad (tadswimsquad@gmail.com) or speak to Mel Robinson, Lead Team Manager.

At TYSSS Team Managers are supported by the club to achieve all the requirements to volunteer in this role including:

  • Having a current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (contact the Welfare Officer tsswelfare@gmail.com)

  • Completing Team Manager training (Book Training)

  • Attaining a Swim England Safeguarding Certificate (Book Training)

Any training costs will be reimbursed

Huge Thanks to Our Officials

And to all our previous Officials too

Officiating

People officiating poolside at swimming galas are volunteers. Officials for our sport are essential to well-run, high quality competitions for our athletes. We encourage athletes, parents and fans to get involved with our sport, not just as spectators but as volunteers with clubs, helping us run events with your technical expertise or by training to become an official.

Officials do not need to be experienced swimmers or have a competitive background. Everything that you need to know to work as an official is provided in the training programme. Training is standardised across the UK.

If you are interested in becoming a team manager please email squad (tadswimsquad@gmail.com) or speak to Deborah Welch, Lead TYSSS Official.

There are five levels of technical officials with each one a progression. For the latest information please visit the British Swimming Officials webpage. The minimum recommended age for candidates to start to undertake training is 14 years, and all need to be registered members of a British Swimming affiliated club or member of the Institute of Swimming (IoS). We recommend that people start with the Judge Level 1 (J1) qualification.

Training is accessed via the Swimming.org training portal. Any training costs will be reimbursed.
